What is it?
A Donegal News Competition to find the ‘Pub of the Year 2008’ and the ‘Restaurant of the Year 2008’ in Donegal, shortlisted entries are decided by votes from customers/readers and the winners are then decided by a ‘mystery shopper’ judge.
Is there an entry fee ?
It costs 125 Euro to enter, for this entries will receive the advertising package as detailed below
What do I get if I enter?
Each business will get a….
- 10 x 7 colour advert in our ‘Pub & Restaurant of the Year’ Supplement*
- These supplements will be distributed through Donegal, as well as through our sister titles in Fermanagh & Tyrone. The result is 50,000 copies of your advertisement sent out in the North West.
- Supplement sent out in September, just in time for Office Party bookings
- Free listing on the ‘Best Pub and Restaurant’ section on the Donegal News website
- Opportunity for all businesses to add their 10 x 7 advert to the website for an extra 35 Euros
- POS sent to Pubs and Restaurants & public invited to vote for their favourite
- Competition publicised throughout our 3 titles & our readers invited to vote for their favourite
3 entries in each category (Restaurants & Pubs) will make the shortlist, these entrants will then receive…..
Short-listed establishments
- A half page further feature in the Donegal News with editorial and photo(s)
The winning business in each category will receive….
Winners in each county
- A special commissioned plaque
- A banner to display outside their business
- A final feature in the Donegal News
*This dedicated supplement will feature entries from our sister title’s in Tyrone & Fermanagh who are competing for their respective titles in Tyrone & Fermanagh

Entries received
Special supplement distributed week commencing September 22nd
Customers/readers are invited to vote for their favourite via text or Internet
Top 3 restaurants and top 3 bars based on votes move forward to the final
These are featured in the Donegal News
‘Mystery Shopper’ judge visits each establishment and reviews according to pre-determined criteria.
The winner will be decided upon and featured in the Donegal News along with presentation photos of the plaque.
Criteria to be marked against
Our ‘mystery shopper’ judge will be making their decision based on a number of criteria including, customer service & welcome, atmosphere, quality of goods and value for money.
