This week I have been overwhelmed by good news and I am so excited! When I came home from Donegal last weekend I received a very promising telephone call.
When I answered the unknown number on my mobile I didn’t recognise the voice on the other end. It was a man called Hugh Rodgers and at that time I had no idea who he was.
Little did I know he was phoning me to offer such a fantastic opportunity. You may have heard of the most talked about performing family today ‘Crystal Swing’ which comprises Mary Murray-Burke and her son and daughter, Derek and Dervla Burke.
Since their appearance on Rural TV’s ‘Hot Country’ show in January, 2010, the band has become an international hit – their website and YouTube videos attracting over three quarters of a million hits, to date, from across the globe, while Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites are all in animated discussion about the band.
The band has also been a hot topic on both Irish national and local radio and press, while their appearance on Ireland’s flagship TV programme, RTÉ’s The Late Late Show, went down a storm and their live interview and performance of He Drinks Tequila on The Ellen DeGeneres show, recorded in Hollywood, earned them two standing ovations.
Hugh Rodgers is the manager of Crystal Swing and he was contacting me to ask if I would be willing to be the support act for Crystal Swing’s up and coming tour all over Ireland starting in May.
Naturally, I jumped at the chance! I would love to meet the family and could not think of a better way to gain so much experience but also the publicity that will surround the tour will be incredible.
The tour will cover in venues all over the country starting from May 13 ranging from as far down as The Cork Opera House all the way up the country to The Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny so I’ll be certain to cover a massive area of ground.
The dates of the tour will be updated on my website very soon at www.lisa-mchugh.com.
Tickets are now on sale from all venues and I believe they are flying out the door so make sure and grab your tickets while you still can.
As well as my tour with Crystal swing, I have also received more fantastic news on the family front. I’m delighted to announce that I will be an aunt for the third and fourth time in November.
My sister and her husband Shaun are expecting their first baby in November and although Celia is a bit on the sick side at the minute she cannot wait to hold that little bundle of joy in her arms.
And only a few weeks later, my Brother Joe and his Wife Joanne are proudly expecting their third child. I’m absolutely delighted for all of them and I cannot wait for the big day.
I’ll be returning back to my second home next week to attend a charity function in Sion Mills. There will be a number of performers at the event including my good friends Robert Mizzell and Kim Dickinson so hopefully we will raise a lot of money for a great cause.
And while I’m over I will be working hard on some new ideas I have in mind for the coming months ahead. I hope to see some of you while I’m over, if not I’ll see you very soon. Until next week take care.
